Update on Tring planning appeal

Redrow Homes Limited is appealing against the decision of the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities on 15 March 2024 to dismiss its appeal (reference APP/A1910/W/22/330992).

Redrow Homes submitted a planning application proposing demolition of all existing buildings at Marscroft Farm, Tring,  and the development of up to 1,400 homes, a new local centre and sports/community hub, primary school, secondary school and public open spaces, including creation of a Sustainable Alternative Natural Green Space (SANG). We turned down the application (reference 22/01187/MOA) on 31 March 2022.

The developer appealed against the decision to the Planning Inspector and we defended the reasons for refusal. Three local organisations - the Chiltern Society, the Grove Fields Residents Association and Campaign for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE) Hertfordshire - joined the appeal, supporting us and adopting rule 6 status.

The Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities called in the appeal and dismissed it. However, the Planning Inspector would have granted planning permission if the decision had not been called in by the Secretary of State.
