Latest electric vehicle charging station goes live, with more sites on the way

Another new Electric Vehicle Charging Point (EVCP) station for Dacorum, at Wood Lane End car park in Hemel Hempstead, has gone live - with many others across the borough set to follow in the coming months.

Residents, businesses and visitors have been making good use of the new stations in Dacorum so far. For example, figures (for up to 12 February 2024) at two locations are showing very positive signs:

  • The Forge car park, in Tring: recorded the highest number of sessions on average per week, since its launch in the autumn - a total of 2,403 sessions, averaging 114 a week.
  • Leverstock Green village shops: recorded the longest average session duration, of 52 minutes, and the highest average amount of energy per session (29.47 kilowatt-hour).

Cllr Adrian England, our Portfolio Holder for Climate Change and Deputy Leader of the Council, said: “It’s wonderful that the latest of these new EVCP stations is now available. This is about ensuring that this leading, modern infrastructure is accessible to people when and where they need it right across our borough. The stations are also creating various benefits to their local area. For instance, at Leverstock Green, the station has a ‘shop-front’ prime location and appears to be bringing an increase in trade to the shops and cafes there.

“As more and more EVCPs are installed in Dacorum, more drivers will have increased confidence about switching to electric vehicles, as we work towards making the borough net zero before 2050.

“The roll-out of these EVCPs pushes Dacorum forward as a location where private investment is being led and stimulated by our approach, making sure the borough is ‘recharged’.”

Operated by Osprey Charging Network, the Wood Lane End station is the fifth new EVCP station in the borough, as part of the current programme, available to the public.

We were awarded £415,360 by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), with support of the Energy Saving Trust, for additional charging points to be fitted for those people with plug-in electric vehicles.
