Mayor of Dacorum
The Mayor of Dacorum for 2018-19: Councillor Rosie Sutton
The Mayor is the first citizen of the borough and is elected to the post by fellow councillors at the annual meeting of the council in May each year. The role of Mayor is a non-political position and during the mayoral year, a Mayor puts aside council duties to concentrate on the role as the town's first citizen.
In addition to chairing the Council meeting, the Mayor attends many different types of functions throughout the borough. These include representing the council at civic functions, receiving dignitaries, attending formal dinners and church services, opening events, talking to clubs and societies and visiting schools. On occasions, the Mayor hosts visits to the Mayor's Parlour from various groups or organisations. The Mayor also has a deputy to stand in if they are unavailable.
The Mayor's correct title is The Worshipful the Mayor of the Borough of Dacorum. After formal introductions, speakers should refer to the Mayor as Madam Mayor.
The Mayor's charity for this year is the Centre in the Park, Hemel Hempstead - further details can be obtained by contacting the Mayor's Office.
About the Mayor
Rosie was born in Apsley and has lived in the town all her life - as had her parents, grandparents and great grandparents: a truly local lady. She was educated in Hemel Hempstead and is a regular member of the congregation of St Mary’s, Apsley, where she married Graham in 1977.
Rosie has spent most of working life in Hemel Hempstead, with 35 years at ELE as Senior Buyer. When the company moved to Leighton Buzzard, Rosie continued to be employed by them. However, in 2008 she took redundancy so that she could take an active role in running her own company with Graham, Suttons Envelopes Ltd.
Rosie became a Ward Councillor for Woodhall Farm in June 2012 and has worked tirelessly for the local community, in particular setting up and running a social club for the local elderly residents.
Rosie’s interests, other than being a Councillor, include swimming, music, reading and walking her two dogs, Megan and Joseph.
