  • AIDS and HIV

    The Crescent Support Group

    Information

    The Crescent is a charity established in 1988 which provides care and support, both by and for, people living with HIV, their families and friends. We provide an open door approach where anyone is welcome to call in for information, advice and support on any issue relating to HIV or sexual health. We provide free condoms and lube either at our drop-in centre in St Albans, or by post if preferred. For those living with HIV or affected by HIV we offer a range of services including complimentary therapies, social events and support services, as well as more formal counselling.

    For the wider community, we offer HIV and sexual health training in a variety of formats for schools and universities, private organisations, health / care providers as well as the public and voluntary sectors.

    Community Action Dacorum

    Information

    There are 12 minibuses ranging from 12-16 seats available to hire to community groups and organisations in Dacorum for whom other forms of transport would not be possible. Please note that nine of the buses are available with a passenger lift.

    Community Cars provides transport services to those people in Dacorum who have difficulties using public or private transport due to infirmity, disability or for any other reason. This scheme is not open to permanent wheelchair users.

    Disabled Parents Network

    The Disabled Parents Network aims to educate and increase society’s acceptance of disability in parenthood. It is made up of disabled parents who believe that disabled people have the right to have children and to be properly supported to carry out that right.

    The Network is for:

    • All disabled parents, including parents with a physical or sensory impairment, parents with learning difficulties, deaf parents, parents with long-term illnesses and parents with mental health issues, parents with drug or alcohol dependence

    Gaddesden Place Riding for the Disabled Centre

    Information

    Gaddesden Place Riding for the Disabled Centre provides riding facilities and instruction for disabled children and adults. It teaches riders with a wide range of disabilities including dispraxia, autism, cerebral palsy, stroke, sight and hearing impairment, ME, Down's Syndrome and MS. Some of its riders are wheelchair users. It has a large indoor school with arena mirrors, a viewing gallery with infra red heating, hydraulic mounting ramp, disabled toilet and kitchen.

    • Improve strength, balance and coordination
    • Stimulate circulation and digestion

    Hemel Morning Deaf Group

    The Group, which meets at Betty Patterson House in Astley Road, Hemel Hempstead, on Mondays between 11.15am and 2.30pm, aims to bring together deaf sign language users who may feel isolated during the day.     Hertfordshire Society for the Blind

    Information

    A modern community hall owned by The Hertfordshire Society for the Blind. It is available for use by groups of visually impaired people and for hire by people with other disabilities and appropriate groups.

    The Centre has a main hall, committee room, fully-equipped kitchen, gardens and parking. The main hall has an induction hearing loop, information in braille on doors, cupboards etc, while the kitchen has a boiler, cookers, crockery, cutlery and other equipment.

    Activities include computer, cookery, pilates and yoga courses.

    The Pensions Ombudsman

    Information
