Get active at new leisure facility

Active Dacorum Hub openingOur new leisure facility run in partnership with local multi–activity organisation, Apex in the Community, is now open.

Mayor of Dacorum, Councillor Terry Douris, opened the Active Dacorum Hub, located at Cupid Green Playing Fields in Hemel Hempstead, on Friday 21 August.

The building, previously known as the Cycle Hub, has been redeveloped and now offers additional facilities and space to accommodate a wide range of leisure and cultural activities.

Councillor Julie Banks, Portfolio Holder for Community and Regulatory Services and Member Champion for Hertfordshire Year of Culture 2020, said: “What a fantastic idea and way for Dacorum residents to get involved in online activities and to see the new Active Dacorum Hub. It is great to see the range of organisations coming together to work with us in partnership to put on such an event for the community. A special thanks to Apex in the Community for its investment and collaborative work with us to get the Active Dacorum Hub open.”

As part of the Hub launch and Hertfordshire Year of Culture 2020, a Virtual Wellness Festival was held on Sunday 23 August. This online event showcased the Hub with a variety of health and creative wellbeing activities delivered by local facilitators and filmed at the Hub. The activity videos, which include family yoga, boxing fitness, dance, art, mindfulness and more, are still available to view on our YouTube channel.

The Active Dacorum Hub now has a mirrored studio space for clubs, classes and workshops, a small gym run by Viking Circle Fitness and a café area with nutritious refreshments served by the Cake Shack. The venue will be available for community hire and aims to become a vibrant and welcoming space for all.
