Open days showcase independent living for older people

Oaklawn supported housing schemeWe're holding a series of open days at some of our supported housing schemes this autumn. We want to highlight the benefits of supported housing, which offers independent living for people aged 60 and over.

Going along to an open day is the perfect way to find out more about what it's like to live in one of our supported flats or bungalows. You can chat with staff and residents to hear about their social events and facilities, such as guest rooms and communal lounges.

Councillor Margaret Griffiths, Portfolio Holder for Housing, said: "We are really proud of our supported housing service, which recently achieved a national 'outstanding' rating. Many of our tenants are still active and working, but have the reassurance that their changing needs will be met as they grow older. We hope that local people will come along to one of our open days to see what supported housing can provide for older residents who live independently in their own home but with support close by."

There are 31 supported housing schemes across the borough, each with a supported housing officer who runs the scheme and looks after the residents' well-being. Most schemes also offer social activities.
