Leisure centre refurbishment reaches half way point

Gym Equipment at Hemel Hempstead leisure centre

A programme of improvement works at Hemel Hempstead Leisure Centre has now reached the halfway point, with customers already enjoying a number of changes.

Our sport and leisure provider, Everyone Active, has invested £1.3million in the project, which will ensure the community has access to state-of-the-art facilities.

Visitors are already benefiting from the new Target Gym, group cycling studio and a multi-purpose room. The spin studio has increased capacity for more people to access classes and, from this week, customers will also get access to the renovated aerobics studio and changing rooms.

The upgrades to the gym are well under way and half of the gym has now been reopened to the public. Benefits include an improved environment, equipment and new air conditioning. The fully refurbished gym will be reopened by the end of September.

Steve Salwa, Everyone Active’s general manager, said: “I’m pleased with the progress we are making through the project and our customers are now able to see and experience the level of quality that is being installed into the centre.

“While the changes to the gym are taking place, we are trying to limit the amount of disruption to customers. Once it is complete, it will offer state-of-the-art equipment for anyone looking to get more active.”

Cllr Neil Harden, Portfolio Holder for Community and Regulatory Services, said: “This is a really exciting time for sports and leisure in the area and these improvements will enable people of all ages to access high-quality affordable leisure facilities.

“Our residents really value the amenities we provide and we want to make sure they are kept to a high standard, so they can be enjoyed by everyone. It’s good to see our new sports provider making this investment and I’m sure everyone will be very pleased with the first-class results.”
