A £1.3million project to improve Hemel Hempstead Leisure Centre is under way.
Sports and leisure provider, Everyone Active, is working on the project, which will see customers benefiting from a number of upgrades. These will include a renovated and extended group cycling studio, the addition of state-of-the-art fitness equipment in the gym and fully refurbished changing rooms.
Work to the new Target Gym has created a brighter and more functional set-up that offers customers access to improved equipment. The new aerobic studio has improved flooring and a new air conditioning unit, which will give an improved environment for customers using the space.
The next stage involves upgrades to the gym which, once completed, will see visitors benefiting from some of the industry’s leading equipment.
Everyone Active took on the management of Hemel Hempstead Leisure Centre, Berkhamsted Leisure Centre, Jarman Park Athletics Track and Longdean Sports Centre in April this year.
General Manager, Steve Salwa, said: “The works that have begun at the centre have already brought about some exciting changes for our customers and I am pleased with the reaction we have had to the new Target Gym and the new studio.
“The project will be completed in September and in the meantime we are working to keep disruption to our customers to a minimum. The next big change our customers will see is the gym, where we are creating an improved area for everyone to use and enjoy.”
Cllr Neil Harden, Portfolio Holder for Community and Regulatory Services, said: “It is good to see the new sports provider investing in the Council's leisure facilities. These activities are extremely popular and we’re investing in them to make sure we are offering first-class facilities. I'm confident that local people will be delighted with the new improvements.
“I'm very much looking forward to seeing this project progress over the next couple of months and would like to thank staff and users for their support and co-operation during this time."
