Over 350 people in Dacorum took part in Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean over the weekend.
Litter picks are taking place all over the country during March, but Dacorum residents have been quick out of the starting blocks with 15 groups collecting 184 bags of litter and recycling in the first weekend.
Our Housing Officers led groups in Leverstock Green and Northend, and thanks to the brilliant spring weather, the event was a huge success. Dacorum Borough Councillors Margaret Griffiths and Hazel Bassadone, along with 24 residents and staff from contractor Osborne, collected a total of 37 bags of rubbish and recycling. Special thanks to Bentley's Delicatessen for kindly providing bacon butties to keep the litter-pickers going, and to Leverstock Green Cricket Club for use of its facilities.
Councillor Janice Marshall, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability, said, “It’s great to see so many groups getting involved all over the borough - in Chipperfield, Berkhamsted, Flaunden, Hemel Hempstead and Tring so far. It’s a great event that anyone can get involved in and it really shows how much pride our residents take in where we live.
"There are still 20 more litter-picking events planned across Dacorum in March and it’s not too late to get involved. To find out more, just visit our website.”
